Digital IP Cameras, also known as Network Cameras, are analogue or digital video cameras, plus an embedded video server having an IP address, capable of streaming audio and video directly over a network. The required recording device consists only of computer software running on a server, this is called an NVR which stands for "Network Video Recorder". Due to the fact that network cameras are embedded devices, and do not need to output an analogue signal, resolutions higher than CCTV analogue cameras are possible.
